Made by Ladislaus Baczynski, Opus 133, Fecit Leopoli anno 1911

Baczynski was born in 1866, Krakow, Poland, and died in 1925 Lviv, Ukraine.

He trained with G. Haussler in Krakow, later with R. Knopf in New York.

He made over 250 violas and violins.

The first owner was Count Anton Grzymala Turzanski, a judge.

Judge Turzanski bought the violin directly from the maker in Lviv, Ukraine.

At that time Lviv was part of the Austro-Hungarian empire.

The violin was then passed to his widow who brought it to Hamilton, Ontario in 1949.
